90 min: Eelgrass and seaweed paddling (from 5 years)

Join us on a guided kayak tour for the whole family and learn more about one of our most important marine plants. Together we will visit the eelgrass meadows in Stånges Nature Reserve, northwest of Lysekil town.

During the journey, we stop to rest, and then tell us why the eelgrass meadows are so important for life under the surface. This is an event during Västerhavsvekkan. (moved from 1/8 due to strong wind)

No prior knowledge is required. Adult participants should be able to swim 200 meters.

We paddle two and two in stable and comfortable tandem kayaks. The tour starts with our kayak storage facility in Norra Hamnen.

After a brief introduction to paddle technique, we go through the equipment and practice steering, cornering and braking before setting off. When everyone feels safe, we paddle about 3-4 kilometers.

During the tour you can sample different types of seaweed and the guide will tell you about the importance of eelgrass as a nursery for fish, its role in biodiversity and how the plant contributes to a healthier sea.

We paddle near the beach at a leisurely pace and make several short stops along the way.

Practical information

• Booking: mandatory, no later than 6pm the evening before a morning tour, no later than 11am the same day for an evening tour
• Length of tour: 1 hour and 30 minutes (just over 1 hour in the kayak)

• Departures: planned successively, adjusted according to wind direction and strength
• Age: From 5 years
• Children under 12 years old share a kayak with an adult.

Include

Comfortable outdoor clothing made of synthetic or wool, as well as a cap or other sun-protective headgear. Clothes can get a little wet.

Rather flip-flops and swimming shoes than clunky sneakers.

Price and Minimum Quantity

In order to get rid of the tour, a family/group always pays for at least 4 participants. Because this is a ride for the young family members, it's the same price whether it's one or two children per adult - if they share a kayak.
